New Alex tubas come unlacquered by default. Lacquer or plating is an additional charge.
My preference is gold brass unlacquered. the gold brass oxidizes so slowly that its appearance changes very slowly, and handling it and wiping it down is enough to keep
it looking nice indefinitely. Yellow brass turns brown pretty fast by comparison.
