My high school used one in the 1940's. Even then, the horn obviously was very old. It was badly dinged all over, and was sort of greenish brass in color. It had four rotary valves which worked very quickly, silently, and smoothly. My recollection is it was made in Czechoslovakia. I was in eighth grade in 1947, borrowed the horn from the high school storeroom, and played it that whole summer. It was the biggest heaviest Sousaphone I've ever seen. Must have been a 30" or 32" bell. The school district traded it in 1949 for an Elkhart (Elkhorn?) BBb Sousaphone.
