My opinion, as someone who used to struggle to find bass notes while singing, is that everyone else's part is much more melodic than ours. We jump around a lot more in our parts, and sometimes there's really no rhyme or reason for it. It takes more harmonic understanding to be able to play/sing our parts more confidently. I found what helps is to listen to music (I do this to the Pictures at an Exhibition all the time) and sing the bass parts to the whole thing. Bass notes start to get ingrained in your head, and you have an easier time finding bass notes in other pieces. Like always, it comes down to being able to hear your part in your head and sing it.
