I know it is expensive, but I use a Yamaha AW2816 digital workstation for all of the stuff I do at school. The cost was about $2000 (ouch!) but the band, chorus, and drama all use it 9and chipped in to pay for it). Accepts XLR, 1/4", MIDI, digital coax, etc.. Also includes an on-board hard drive and cd burner. Probably overkill to record yourself, but you never know... Works great for recording kids audition cd's for college and such.
