Jim,
I would caution you about putting various wraps/guards on your instrument. Generally, when left on for any length of thime they have the opposite effect of what was intended, and actually trap the sweat, etc., accelerating the finish breakdown. On a silver horn, I recommend Tarni-Shield by 3M, which has the longest-lasting tarnish preventative I've found. For a lacquered instrument, I recommend Meguiar's Cleaner Wax (yes, automotive, clearcoat-safe). Many musicians use Lemon Pledge, but it contains citric acid, which is not recommended. The Meguiar's Wax actually will remove or hide minor scratches on used instruments, making them look much better, and will keep new instruments looking new longer.
