The 50 minute point was just the daily drills - so you cover all bases straight after your warm-up. That way if you happen to spend the rest of your practice on one thing, you've at least spent SOME time on all the technical facets of playing. I was never suggesting folks should limit their practice to 50 mins a day! : )

The 20 minute rule stands well for me when practicing technical stuff - less so for pieces and the like. Changing what you practice after 20 minutes keeps you fresh over a long day of practicing. Idea being 20 mins on, then at least 5 mins rest (10 better I think) to evaluate what you just did and also plan your next 20 mins. It is these short sessions which keep you focused...
