I have had two students from Scandinavia who started at age 18. Both were very good players after two years, almost pro level.

OK, one was a sax player but... euphonium -- saxhorn -- saxophone?

I would not have thought rapid progression was possible from even 18-20 years olds, but obviously they were capable of doing it.

One thing in common, they both had good teachers who were professionals. These teachers insisted that the students go and listen to good musicians perform often.

I say go for it!

Hey, did you know that you can solo in an airplane with less than 14 hours of practice! Try soloing on euphonium with 14 hours of practice.
