But RD's right--the terms used for the types of brass in the musical instrument trade don't match up with "standard" terminology very well. Technically, they're all referred to as copper alloys. There are lots of "brasses" with new ones cropping up; see the link at the bottom of the page.

Until the instrument trade comes clean about the exact composition of the alloys they use (not too likely), we're all pretty much shooting in the dark when we talk about "rose brass" or "red brass" or "yellow brass". I suspect that "gold brass" is what the metals trade would call "gilding brass" or "high-copper" brass.

There's very little that's better than brass when it comes to ease of machining and forming and resistance to corrosion, although I understand that it's easier to spin certain types of stainless steels than it is to spin yellow brass.
