The accent on achievement book is good. However, if you are a complete beginner and not taking lessons, I would recommend Essential Elements 2000 as well. It comes with a cd that has a recording of a tuba player playing the first 58 excercises out of the book. This cd is also excellent for mouthpiece practice.
