Yeah, his book "Fundamentals of Musical Acoustics" is the best one I've looked at by far - I wasn't saying they were all bad, only that a lot of them are.
I always get "Benade" confused with "Backus" who wrote the first acoustics book I ever read - it's pretty bad, in my humble opinion.
I'll keep an eye out for the Fletcher and Rossing. I've heard it's good.
I went through a spell of building didgeridoos out of pvc pipe of various sizes and tapers, and learned more about acoustics doing that than I have from a lot of books.
It would be cool to meet sometime to talk about some of this stuff; if you're ever in London...
