I play a CC tuba because I started as a euphonium player. In fact, I didn't know for a while that tubas in other keys even existed. When I went to All-State band camp this past summer, I was the only one of eight tubists to use a CC. I think that this whole business of one being for orchestral playing and the other for concert band is ridiculous. However, I see an advantage in playing any non-transposing instrument over a transposing one because it saves you the trouble of all the concert pitch mumbo-jumbo. Still, don't switch too quickly based on just that. Long live the jazz tuba!!!
