What that "slip-slide" thing is is an extra slide in the main tubing. After the mouthpiece, it goes: leadpipe - main tuning slide - slip slide - valve section. It's designed to move as easily as a trumpet's valve slides, with a ring to pull it with your left hand and a stop at the end of its travel. Its primary function is to lower a half step, making notes like Ab and Eb down in the treble clef available (otherwise same fingering patterns as T.C. euph or trumpet).

And, yeah, as tubagoo said, it kicks butt! It can sound sooo mellow, too.
