Sam is a good example of one who can make most any horn sound great. Most of the greats have (had) the same ability. That in mind, if you like the horn (and the price), the only thing keeping it from sounding great is the player. As Brian stated, this is a smaler horn designed for small ensemble and solo type work. My son tried one when they first came out and prefered our old Conn 2-J (interesting that a 12 year old would choose an old horn to a brand new shiny one!), though I doubt he really had the experience to make any kind of informed decision. Personally, I would miss the 5th valve as I enjoy on my horns. That alone would for me require a deal too good to pass up. But, after hearing Sam do his thing on it, I'm sure that horn has a lot of appeal.
