It is lightweight, due to its size, but not feather-weight, because it has a #4 piston and that long #4 slide tubing onboard. It is good for just about any type of playing that you don't have to supply truckloads of volume, nor an umbrella-like sound. (Good for solo, quintet, dixieland/polka/jazz, community band (if you really don't mind just "blending in"), and for annoying your wife at 2:00 A.M. with your brand new cute little tuba that you just can't seem to put away and go on to bed.

"Student" or "Step-up"?: Again, this tuba's body is EXACTLY like the Yamaha 3/4 body that Yamaha uses on ALL of the following instuments: Their "student" 3/4 3-valve BBb, Their "professional" 3/4 4-valve BBb, their "professional" 3/4 4-valve CC, and their "professional" 3/4 5-valve F. So, you tell me.

[pretty smart-elicky sounding, I guess, but actually:] If you are a student, it is a student tuba, if you are a professional, it is a professional tuba. (???)
