For right around $500, you can have a store that is aligned with one of the General Woodworkers dealers to custom order you a case.

General Woodworkers puts out a standard sheet where you measure some "A to B" and "C to D" things on your tuba, etc. and then send the filled out sheet in. Although I have never seen the Hirshies on their standard order list (If Hirshies are already on their "list", you don't have to "custom" order - It would already be an offered "model".), admittedly, I have never looked for them there.

The General Woodworkers are those wooden black cases that you see everywhere.

Also, if you have a place in town that sells foam rubber and custom cuts it, you can get a friend/cabinet maker to make you a case, laminate it with some Formica-type product for looks and durability, and then have the foam rubber place custom cut you some inserts. This would require some effort, thought, phone calls, and planning...Just an idea, but probably one that is also way under $1000, and would be quite satisfactory, if not better than General Woodworkers.
