They must ahve changed over the years some, because there are a few differences from what you described. The one at my school has QUIET valves, but they are as slow as waiting for a mule to reproduce. :-) (I'll let that one soak in) The low register is VERY free, but there is no volume below the F below the staff. The hish register is good, but sharp as I'll let out.
My used, 20 year old mirafone has just as good of a sound, better volume, and faster valves, and it's smaller.
I do have to admit I like the arrangement of valve slides on the 641 better than anything ive seen. It looks like the Meinl Weston 25 is the ssame but ive never used one of those.
