****___A fourth valve on ANY tuba remedies some basic tuning problems on four notes in particular, and fills in MOST of a gap in the low range of the instrument between the "fundamental" (lowest possible notes) and the "first partial" (very low notes - the ones in that "gap" range which require depressing a lot of valves)


*****__A fifth valve on ANY tuba almost completely solves the basic tuning problems of those same four notes, and COMPLETES filling in that "gap" in the low range.

******_A few tubas (no matter what key) with SIX valves offer more options for subtile pitch differences in repairing tuning problems, offer some interesting slurring alternatives, and just about completely tweak up the pitch in those notes in that "gap" low range.
