If we're going to bring other pieces into this, I'm going to say that playing a Bb major scale, one octave, in one direction, and TELLING A STORY WITH IT IN A PERFORMANCE, thereby genuinely touching people's emotions, would be extremely difficult.
Or even harder, just a single note.
Notey pieces full of athletic licks can, to the average listener, cover for "not-quite-there" musical storytelling and emotional involvement. But, one would have to be rather amazing to pull off a performance of "Major Scale in Bb" (don't even ask me about obtaining a copyright on that one!).
Am I going to try it? Heck no, at least not for a looong time! :-)
