I took an army band audition last winter. It involved the solo I had been working on, about 30 scales (major, natural minor, harmonic minor, melodic minor)and about 25-30 minutes of sight reading band excerpts. The sight reading came out of a rather thick folder of tuba parts. It started pretty easy and got harder and harder. All the sight reading was at tempo and no time to look it over. I thought it was pretty professional and thorough. By the way, I did well, but decided to give band directing one more try.
