It really depends on where you need to take your tuba.
On an airplane? I'd get the nicest flight case or anvil case I could find (many people have posted regarding tubas and airplanes)
Around a college campus? Get a gig bag...easier to transport and store
Home to band hall etc. in a car? A gig bag will work fine
Traveling (non-airplane) with you tuba a lot? Hard cases offer more protection...reduces your chance of one of those "little accidents" that can happen to horns in gig bags.
Do you have to walk everywhere? A gig bag would make your life so much easier
Myself....I'd get a hard case with nice wheels on it for the ultimate in protection and mobility.
