I am in the process of trying out and possibly purchasing a large CC tuba. The strongest contender for my dough at the moment is the MW 2165. It sounds great in the middle and upper register but the low notes, only the ones that required the fourth valve, seemed quite stuffy to me. I had the same experience with the VMI 4098 and 5198. Is this how all 6/4 CC tubas respond or did I just try out the duds? Is it a fault with me? Not enough air? The 4/4 CC tuba I am borrowing from my school responds very well in the low register; it reminds me a lot of my BBb tuba's low register.
Essentially, I want to know if anyone else out there has this problem with the low register on their 6/4 CC, in particular the MW 2165? I already checked the archives for this subject and was unsuccessful. Thanks for any response.
