WJ cases are very nice. If you just want a regular-duty hard case for less money, General Woodworkers in Wisconsin makes those black wood cases that you see everywhere. Most music stores can order them for you from D.E.G. Music. A good price for one might follow this formula: 1/2 of "LIST" + $50 (profit for music store) + ACTUAL SHIPPING COST
These wooden Wisconsin cases can be purchased with or without heavy duty wheels. Since yours is a smaller tuba, if you are in "good" to "athletic" shape, you might want to consider the "without wheels" to save money, and so that the case would fit in vehicles even more easily.
The $50 in the formula, above, would represent a modest profit for the music store, considering the trouble and the 2-5% credit card processing fees paid by them. A small case, such as one that would fit your Holton, might be U.P.S.-able. Therefore, shipping would be considerably lower than by common carrier. Your local music store that sold you the tuba should be willing to offer you a deal like this, or perhaps you could encourage them to lower their profit margin to as little as $30 or $40, since you DID buy the tuba from them.
If you are going for a Walt Johnson or Anvil, however, it is probably best to deal directly with those manufacturers.
