Joe,
I am indeed using the Schilke 51D mouthpiece, having made that choice because of suggestions of others on the Tubanet. As I mentioned in my original post, the Yamaha seems to be an excellent horn and of superior workmanship with respect to how everything fits together and works smoothly. The quality of the sound, not the quality of the instrument, is what I am questioning. Of course, you are correct in asserting that the quality of the player may be one factor to consider here. I do plead guilty. Not being a musician in any sense of the word, I play strictly for the enjoyment I receive from the activity. So please forgive me for asking "stupid" questions, and thank you for responding in such a polite manner.
