I'd pursue the mouthpiece question further. A 51D is indeed an excellent choice for a euphonium, but the larger bore instruments may need something even bigger. I was recently trying out a friend's Willson 2704 and found that the sound became a lot mellower with a Bach 3G that I had around for a large bore tenor trombone. Technically it's a bass trombone mouthpiece, but most euphoniums are after all larger bore instruments than a bass trombone. I found the 3G a very comfortable mouthpiece with that instrument, and the high register was still strong. Now I have to loan it to my friend the owner of the Willson. I'd suggest taking your instrument into a music store and trying out sizes in the Bach 3 and 4 range.
