I was thinking that I would attach the rod to the tuning slide using something like a lyre holder, with the rod passing on through. When I want to change the position of the slike, I'd loosen the screw, slide the slide, then retighten the screw. To remove the slide, just loosen the screw, pull the slide off, clean & lube, & put back on, passing the rod back through the lyre holder.
