The ranges BBb, CC, Eb, and F are all identical. They can all have distinctively different sound qualities when coupled with different mouthpieces and different players.

A common misconception is that F tuba is used for higher music while CC tuba is used for lower music. This is not so. People have made great performances of the Vaughan Williams tuba concerto on CC and played the full range of brass quintet literature solely on F.

F tubas have a unique sound which is "appropriate" for some tunes while CC tubas are "appropriate" for others.
