I am both a consumer and vendor who does a ton of credit card transactions. Personally, I put everything (including gas and groceries) on plastic - I'm doing the frequent flier mile game and pay the bill off each month. That's me but, as a vendor, I deal with all kinds. There are those who just send a card number with no problem. Others have to do fax orders rather than doing it on the net. Others need to talk to a humanoid, send a check or other ways.

The moral of the story is that everyone is different about giving credit card information. Sometimes I find myself talking to someone and saying I'll ship it, give me your card number as if I was doing the transaction personally. While I mean no harm, some people are turned off. Again, everyone has their own way of doing a transaction.

As far as doing net sales, you should know the person. This is part of the reason whenever I post to any net brass list, I use my real name and email address - no aliases! This way a name, face and reputation are in front of people. I am not about to get a bad reputation by taking everyone's card numbers to Vegas and maxing out everyones cards at the casinos.

Problems do happen from time to time. Just a few days ago I noticed I screwed up a charge and overcharged by $500 (OK, I screwed up a decimal point). Luckily, I noticed it before the customer and made one of those I-screwed-up phone calls. Problems like this will happen but before posting a message that you were screwed, contact the merchant first. If there is still a problem, that's another situation.

As far as Matt and Dillon Music, they are straight shooters and would not risk their well earned reputation. Maybe this is a problem of how two people pay for things. I'll bet once Matt finishes his work, you will be a happy camper.
