Don't try to get rid of the red rim on your mouth in a hurry ..don't panic..
My teacher used to ASK FOR the red rim coz he did not think i was using enough pressure
to sit my mouth on the rim *firmly* (yes it needs to be firm on the upper lip)..
If you get a chance to see Roger Bobo playing the mouthpiece is like ATTACHED to his upper
lip ..but i dont think he has that red rim. I think the key point is *embouchure strength*. I am starting to practice 4 hours because I have achieve the red rim , 3/2
on my upper lip and 1/3 on my lower lip (but the red rim usually goes away within about
10 min.) ..and I realize that it is th strength that matters .. if the embouchure is not strong enough when you try to play something a little harder you push harder but the lips
are not doing the work so you use excessive pressure to get the sound you want , then what happens is the blood supply in that area got cut , the red rim is actually the blood
which is pushed away from the vibrating surfaces..
Nobody told me this it's just my observation so if it doesn't work ...forget about it..
i am just a sophomore at college.
