Joey, once while chatting with a German friend and native speaker, I mentioned I played a Swiss tuba called a Hirsbrunner. It had a picture of a Stag as a logo. He immediately challenged that spelling and told me it was a Hirschbrunner (which I think means brown hart) in German. I asked if he would accept irrefutable proof of the first spelling. He said paper can be erased so I asked if engraved in silver by Mr. H. would do. He mumbled something about people who can't spell their own names and walked away. Apparently Hirsbrunner is not a conventional spelling of the name but it is correct. This same friend also insists that Czechoslovakia did not exist before 1947 (I guess, to him, it didn't).
