I know that you have already mentioned your dislike of Korg tuners, but I am not sure if you have ever tried the Korg AT-1. It is not too large but has a full "analog" dial, (needle); can sound a tone and has an input which can be used for a contact mike. Mine is at least ten years old and has held up well. It works well, even in the pedal range. Incidentally, Woodwind and Brasswind carries a nice contact mike called the Matrix Universal Tuner Pick-Up which makes it work even better.
