I just got done taking my bottom bow off my horn in anticipation of sending it to the shop for some dent work. I noticed something strange and I thought I would ask some repair type guys for their opinions.

Is is normal for there to be only a very thin strip of solder holding on a bow, or is the solder supposed to flow all of the way to point where the bow meets the bell? I thought it was strange that three was so much brass with no solder on it at all.

Does this affect the way the horn plays? I would guess that the more solder you have holding the bow to the Ferrule, the better the metal would react at the joint, but that is just my guess.

Is this normal for most makes?
