Yeah, plus people (judges and audiences) are accustomed to hearing melodies (or melodic playing) in the middle and higher octaves. Witness the popularity of "the Three Tenors", where are the three basses? There's just not as much out there, although great strides have been made, we often have to resort to schtick and crossover to get an audience. (not that there's anything wrong with that...)
