Very good point, Mary Ann! It may be a good player, with a lovely tone in your living room, but don't try to play it with the community band! A lot of horns built in that time period are tuned flat, so to play them in tune with modern instruments all slides must be pushed in, and even then some notes will be flat. you'll have to do quite a bit of Lipping to come close. I have had a few old tubas like this, fairly good condition, nice rich tone, but didn't "play well with others." Very frustrating, especially to the other band members! Needless to say, they went back on EBay. (some of them may still be up there, getting passed around...)
If you're just looking for a horn to mess around with at home, and to see if you like euphonium enough to buy a new one eventually, then this is a good horn at a good price.
