If centering the pitch or making a clean attack is a problem in the lower register, try playing the passage, buzzing it on the mouthpiece, play it again, and repeat until you feel ti is sufficient. Buzzing really helps you breathe and creates a much smoother flow of air on the horn since the air needed to play ff is the same that's needed to buzz mf. Just don't overdo the buzzing or you'l blow out your chops.
