Sorry Aubrey, but I agree with Mark.

Play as high as you need to play, and learn to play as high as you want to play. But there are no solos out there that one has to learn how to play by the time he/she graduates high school to be considered a fine musician. Rather one should concentrate on playing everything in front of them as beautifully as the composer meant it to be played. You might be able to play the Bydlo solo from Pictures up an octave someday.......But that doesn't mean diddly-poo. If you can't take a simple Bordogni Etude and play it with a clear sound and consistent phrasing, then the rest of what you do is going to suffer from a lack of fundamental study. ps-It does you no good at all to have the abillity to nail a high M# above the staff if you can't incorporate it into a seamless phrase.
