Best bet is this: Do you want a darker sound which the 983 will give you or do you like the sound of F tuba instead? That's all it really comes down to. I personally like my bass tuba to be lighter, more flexible and hold pitch well, which is why I own a 621. I did like the 983 though. It's a fantastic horn, but it totally depends on what you want your bass tuba to sound like. Hope this helps.
