I studied with Ron as a high school student in South Carolina from 1985-1987. Ron along with Bob Pruzin, USC's horn prof, were the type of teachers that leave a lasting impression on you. I went on to college to study Engineering, but I can tell you about Ron the person. He is a fist-rate guy who is very passionate about the tuba. He definitely fits in the mold of a musician who plays the tuba rather than a "tuba player". He studied with Bobo and Johnson when he was on the west coast before taking the gig in WI before taking the job at USC.
