If the tuba you speak of playing is one you just happen to have access to, one can pretty much assume its a BBb. A BBb tuba would actually give a similar sound to a bass bone. A sound which is inferior to an F or CC tuba--at least for MOST pieces you would be playing. Just close your eyes and imagine what you think a quintet ought to sound like. When I do that I definately hear tuba.
