Why not play BOTH? For Renaissance and some baroque stuff, I play bass bone. Sometimes when the part says "2nd trombone" I play euph. Anything romantic, modern or popsy, I play tuba (usually CC). Experiment until you find the sound/combonation that you like, and your quintet likes.
