Any tuba can be turned into junk in the hands of undisciplined and untrained children who have not learned respect for other peoples' property (and this does include school instruments). Don't blame the instrument. I've played some completely junkified Miraphones that died their ignominious deaths at the hands of high-schoolers.

There's a reason why the new horn goes to the player most likely to take care of the instrument.

And, for the record, I'll take the new King 2341 any day over either a St. Pete or a PT-1 for school use, on purely musical measurements.
