I think an open wrap on a horn as opposed to a tight wrap has a lot to do with response in the way that it blows freer or not. I went from a Getzen to a Mirafone 186(both tight wraps) to a 3/4 Rudy(more open wrap) and the Rudy is a lot more free blowing but very nimble, well-centered and even.
