Boy, you bring up a subject that has been around for eons and I know because
some of those eons I participated in.

In the old days, East Coast sound was thought to be very bright, stick
it in your face sound. The articulations were pointed and the vibrato
could knock you off a chair. As you progressed West, the sound tended to
round out, the articulations softened, and the vibrato slowed a bit.

As you got to the West, imagine Dean Martin singing an Italian love song and you
have the type of style prevalent to that area.

I'm not saying this to start a 25 comment argument about the theory of
sound production around the U.S. or world but rather just to pass on information
that was out there and if you think about it, made sense at the time.

I would also agree that the sound zones, if you will, have blurred over time but
if you really want to hear these differences, get some late 60's era D&B corps
recordings from around the country and listen to the styles. They were a product
of their teachers.

Just a thought.

Old Joe
