Chainsaw chain oil's way too heavy! It seems to have the consistency of about 40 weight. Stay away from food oils and 3-in-1; they break down with time and will foul things up for you. Mineral oil's fine.

Lamp oil would be my choice--I use the ultrapure unscented stuff routinely on horns that require a light oil. Quite frankly, I can't tell any difference between lamp oil and Roche-Thomas valve oil. They have the same consistency, appearance and faint odor.

A quart of ultrapure lamp oil should run about two bucks and last you several years.
