I would recommend buying a used horn. This way you can get a good horn for the same price you would pay to buy an Ok horn brand new. Willson is considered to be the top of the line buy most people. Besson is the standard among euphonium players. I play a Mirafone and think it is just as good as the much more expensive Willson models. Yamaha is a solid name and is the easiest to find. Any of these brands I'm sure he would be thoroughly happy with as they are what most professionals use.
