A. ceramic pistons would abrade
B. titanium is too expensive and too hard to work easily into tubes
C. stainless steel absorbs too much of the brilliance of tone; see the recent postings on Mr. Schilke's monograph
D. the bell on the other side would screw up the balance, make it harder to hear, and would be even more damage-prone
E. Palladium? Go whole hog and try depleted uranium.
