I did the nailpolish thing on an old Conn Helleberg I used to march with to "smooth" out the rim by leveling out the scratches, not because I had any reaction to the silver...the results weren't that great. In TX during the summer it is hot, and as a result the mp got warm and the nailpolish got kinda sticky. Then, like you said, it begins to peel off. When that happend, I took mine under hot water and peeled all of it off.

Although you sound like you are ok with the idea of iron supplements, you might want to try a plastic rim mouthpiece. These are usually custom jobs, but for people that have skin reactions to different metals, this is always an option. If you have a mp you like, try taking the iron first and see what happens. If that doesn't work for you, plastic rims are always an option.
