Have you considered acrylic (Plexiglas)? This material can feel as smooth as any metal surface if buffed correctly and doesn't cool down when not used. Plastics are quite different from one another and this type is smoothest by far. They can play as well as any brass mouthpiece, but that has more to do with design than material.
