I would defininately stay away from Rotary valves. Although I do prefer rotary valves, one good whack and it would cost a lot of $$ to repair. My school has a Meinl Weston 25 (4 rotary valve) and one of the little kids is now allowed to play it. I checked out the horn, the first day after he played it, and I found it upside down, on the valves in the case. One huge, I repeat 3" diameter dent in the bottom bow-in the reinforced strip, a crease in the bell, and the 4th valve works for $hit. This was all in one, 42 minute period of playing with a little kid. ARGH!!! I'm soo pissed, as is my band director.
