At their price point, it's pretty hard to beat the AT822 (and it's balanced output brother, the AT825). I did a bunch of recital and audition tape recording and got excellent results with them. If price is no object, you absolutely could buy a couple of Neumann U87's and do stereo room recording and it would sound fantastic, but realistically (since a matched set of almost ANYTHING Neumann is approximately what one would pay for a new upper-end tuba)you couldn't go wrong with the AT series stereo condensers. You may also want to look into the Shure stereo condenser - a bit more expensive (about $1K) but I'm sure it's also a fine mic.
