As with many things, we are expected to play in many situations. If you ONLY do brass quintet playing, one tuba might be perfect, but if you put THAT tuba in a big symphonic band, it would be totally inappropriate. If you only do large ensemble playing, the perfect tuba for THAT application, would nit be very satisfactory if you were playiung tuba quartetes. If one want a good alla round tuba, that would be fine in EVERY situation, but not PERFECT in ANY situation, you'd need to get a 4/4 sized tuba, not too big for small ensemble and big enough for almost all large ensemble situation. In this case, I would recommend a Mirafone 186 or 188.
